THE OPPORTUNITY
As a Forward Deployment Engineer at Flock Safety, you’ll serve as the technical bridge between our customers, Customer Success, and Engineering teams. You’ll be the first point of technical escalation, diagnosing and resolving complex issues, validating bugs, and ensuring that our core engineering teams can stay focused on product innovation.
This role sits within the engineering organization and blends software engineering, systems integration, and direct customer interaction. You’ll work hands-on with law enforcement and aviation partners, translating technical details into clear, actionable guidance and ensuring our systems run reliably in mission-critical environments.
We’re looking for someone who thrives in dynamic, technical environments, a problem-solver who can balance deep technical troubleshooting with clear communication. Flexibility, curiosity, and composure under pressure are essential, as some on-call support and cross-team coordination are part of the role.
The Skillset
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Aviation Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong programming and scripting skills in Go, Powershell, or TypeScript
- Experience with flight networking systems (preferred in secure or regulated environments like aviation, law enforcement, or defense).
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization (Kubernetes, Docker).
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex technical problems, especially involving hardware/software integration in field environments.
- Excellent communication skills for cross-functional coordination with non-technical aviation stakeholders.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across systems, integrations, and APIs.
- Proficiency in querying and analyzing data (SQL).
- Experience with reporting and visualization tools (Grafana, PowerBI, Tableau)
- Understanding of networking fundamentals (e.g., VPNs, firewalls, routing).
- Prior client-facing or consulting experience in aviation, law enforcement, defense, or critical infrastructure.
- Driven by impact and mission readiness. Able to jump in when customers or field systems need critical support, even outside normal hours.
- Knowledge of aviation drone standards, such as FAA Part 107.
Feeling uneasy that you haven’t ticked every box? That’s okay; we’ve felt that way too. Studies have shown women and minorities are less likely to apply unless they meet all qualifications. We encourage you to break the status quo and apply to roles that would make you excited to come to work every day.
